Venues are being upgraded; the best hotels are making themselves even better; the transport infrastructure is heading into the 21st century, ready for the huge influx of travelers on the way. The huge changes that came with the end of political turmoil, when a groundswell of prosperity and outward looking modernity began sweeping the country, is now getting even bigger as Joburg steps up to the plate in 2010.
Of course, getting a room during World Cup time will be the ultimate golden ticket, but if you pull it off each hotel has something special to offer. The grandeur of The Michelangelo and the chocolate box intimacy of The Saxon make them great contenders, but my good history at Melrose Arch gives it the edge for me.
I genuinely love the staff and the way it is designed for both the business and leisure traveler, with equally stunning conference and pool facilities. It just works. All three will be world-cup ready and there is no doubt that next June, Joburg will be the place to be…
