For anyone interested in Israel, or trying life out in the elements where nature can’t help but overwhelm you, setting aside time to explore the South when you visit Israel is a must. I call traveling like this “experience with no star rating.” You have to class spending time in the vast landscapes of the Negev, living amongst the Bedouins in a tent, as unique, incomparable adventures that stretch your knowledge of what lies out there in the world - not service to be quantified and weighed against anything else.
In the Negev, there is not only plenty of space to find total solitude, but enough ways to combine many different kinds of travel experiences, from action-packed treks to markets, home cooking and luxuriating by a glowing fireplace or indoor pool. As Israel’s pioneering leader, Ben-Gurion once said, “The desert provides us with the best opportunity to begin again.”
This could be the start of your next big family holiday, or solo journey of self-discovery…
