I like to stay fit and push myself. My way to launch the day is to get my heartbeat up and break a sweat with a run - rain, hail or shine. As it happens this is also a fantastic way to anchor myself somewhere when I travel. Before Sheira and the kids have even opened their eyes I have usually explored whatever area we have landed in the old-fashioned way, by foot.

Sheira doesn’t exercise - she is one of those people who has the metabolism to stay whip thin and probably runs around with our daughter Zoe as much as I do anyway. Sheira loves sleep more than anything so she cherishes holidays as a chance to catch some zzzzs. And try getting a teenager out of bed at 6 am! So the family rarely breakfasts together, but they are brilliant at understanding my need for this ritual - where it’s just me alone, going wherever the path takes me.

Over the years those paths have led to some pretty amazing places, some that I would never have seen in the normal course of a day. So whether I am pounding the pavements of South America’s biggest party beach, winding along the serpentine curves of a medieval village road or kicking up dust in Africa with the long, dried out grass whipping my legs , I’d love to share these moments with you. Hopefully you will add your own footprints to this places - and I welcome your own Morning Run suggestions in our YOU SAID forum on the homepage…
