I had my hopes up of finding interesting Turkish inspired costume jewelry here in Turkey. When we had a look in some of the galleries and antique stores in Goreme,in the Nevsehir district, I could see the quality of the shops were better than in our village of Uchisar. Goreme being more of a tourist town had a lot more choice on offer, and the quality of the products in general was better, but also offered a lot of product sold through the street stalls, possibly more suitable to packpackers.
I loved the roughly hewn, lumpen looking pearls and ceramic, Ottoman style beads with little inlaid stars on sale. If you like beading there is a treasure trove here: triangular-shaped, geometric or with individual patterns.
You can also dip into the glittery harem and belly dancer aesthetic with a lot of beaten metal and dangling earrings with chains.
It is also worth having a wander around for textiles, woven rugs, beads pinned on velvet panels and banners if you want to bring a little Turkish craftsmanship back to your own "tent" at home
there were few shops that really stood out and make mention of, except for of the jewelry at ÖZLER ONYX in the village where we were staying at Uçhisar. Their jewelers work with silver, gold and semi-precious stones that work on traditional designs but now made with a little less fuss caught my attention..
