LOCAL SHOPPING GUIDE SANTORINI
"Searching for the best shopping experiences in Santorini? Jonathan and his family share their local shopping guide for the Greek Islands..."
Jonathan mentioned it earlier, but Thira is much more of a shopping destination than Oia. Having said that, you can still have a really good time here in Oia.
The shops are open quite late,( 10pm in many cases) so I find it’s always fun to have dinner then wander around the shops at night. We love destinations with lively street life at night; shopping really adds to a sense of nocturnal culture. People are out and about enjoying the restaurants and bars, but it’s nowhere near as crowded or as frantic as Thira.
Oia isn’t the place for tech based purchases or anything electronic, but there’s a nice selection of shops selling jewelry, antiques, clothing, scarves, souvenirs and gifts. I’m happy with the boutique nature of shopping here, and I really appreciate the more relaxed and tranquil atmosphere. If I really want to do some serious shopping, I’d head down to Thira.
In general, Santorini is a bit more expensive than most of the other islands, so be warned that you might pay a bit more on your Santorini shopping experience than you would elsewhere.
A great deal of the tourists coming to Greece pass through this island and, as always happens, the entrepreneurs don’t want to miss a Euro!
