  • Hi Jonny

Thank you for your recommendation to visit Santorini and Folegandros. We absolutely loved loved loved Folegandros and it was the perfect combination with Santorini. Although we were delighted in Santorini and wondered why we were leaving, we were smitten with Folegandros. It felt like a more intimate and purer travel experience for two reasons. First, it is much more manageable than Santorini because of its size and because the town is a small cluster of shops and restaurants. And second, it wasn't as loaded with back packers and glitz. Although it's always been a resort island, there were locals living their regular life there - drinking coffee at the cafes in their suits, walking with donkeys laden with straw, running family owned tiny ferry boats. After a day there, you could almost convince yourself that you were a local. We found a place for breaky just near the bus station that was owned by a Danish?/Norwegian couple in their 60s that was charming. It was set in a lovely homey garden. The woman cooked very good food in the kitchen; all home made cakes and frexhly squeezed juices and served it in her own pottery ware. Her husband took the orders painstakingly to ensure that you got your tea just the way you like it.

However, the standout for us was Nicholas beach. We went there for it's seclusion. We caught the little ferry to Nicholas beach which is a nudist beach but no-one was perturbed that we weren't nude. It was a samll lovely beach. As we lay reading our books (byo shelter and towel) we noticed people walking down the cliff to the beach with take away coffees. We walked 20m up the cliff to find a taverna with french 30s music playing, the English speaking owner to help choose the fish and some women sketching the customers and selling hair clips and pretty bits. We sat there, drinking wine, eating fish only to see a glamourous sailing boat stop below and put their catch into a basket which was then winched up to the restaurant for lunch. Heaven!

  • OlŠ Jonathan!

I love Rio and have visited there many times. One of the highlights for me is the club scene there, which is relatively cheap when you compare drinks prices in other big cities like London and New York. You can get cocktails for under US$8!
If your readers are up for a challenge, some of the hardest but best clubs to get into are Redux, Melt, Nuth and Baronetti. They are less touristy and more glam local, which would suit Fasano people. Are you going to go back for the 2010 Olympics and party?

  • Dear Mr Jonathan Said,

I like the look of Folegandros as a tip, as my preference would be to the out of the way islands. I am planning a long 2010 trip and would like to visit about 4 or 5. Are you planning to go to any other Greek islands in the near future that arenít so well known? Any suggestions? PS I feel like I can already taste that yoghurt!

  • Hello there Jonathan,

I was wondering if you could recommend the best time to go on safari? I am not really a "heat and dust" person as you put it, but would love to experience the big game. Is there a cooler time to at least minimise my discomfort?

  • Hi Everyone!

If anyone is interested in the arts scene in Bodrum while staying at this hotel, there is an unusual event called "Kiln under the Sea" which shows underwater ceramics. To view the artwork you have to snorkel! This was at the Bodrum Underwater Archeological Museum and my boyfriend and I saw it a few years ago. I don't know if it is still onÖ

  • Our holiday began with the recommendation of Perivolas Hotel in Santorini by Jonathansaid.com. Our experience was exactly how we were told it would be. When we arrived at Perivolas and were greeted by Kelly, who we felt we knew because we were told about her, was an amazingly warm experience. It felt like we had already been there. We took advantage of all the jonathansaid.com info from restaurants to shops and sunset walks. Even the room that we stayed in was preselected because of jonathan...next to the pool and not far from the restaurant...which was just perfect.

Jonathansaid.com really made this trip what it was, a memorable and unique experience..
